MADURAI: The American College Principal post in Madurai is now an important talking point in academic circles as there is a huge demand and lobbying going on from aspirants for that position since the last date to apply from the eligible candidates for the post of Principal (Aided post) was over on April 25th 2025.
According to college sources, the Principal Search Committee meeting will take place in the second week of May 2025 to interview the candidates who applied for Principal post in American College and the Bishop of Madurai-Ramnad Diocese Rt.Rev.Dr.Jeyasingh Prince Prabhakaran who is the president of college governing council went to the college today afternoon for an emergency meeting with the American College administration team.
“Totally 25 candidates had applied for American College Principal post. And the eligible candidates as per UGC qualification eligibility notification is 13 candidates now. Already, the internal committee of our college had rejected some applications. So, the Search Committee will meet in May second week to interview the shortlisted candidates and finalize the next Principal candidate for our American College,” sources said.
As per the information received today evening-April 28th 2025-, there are four strong contenders in the race for Principal position and the strongly speculated names as strong contenders are present college Bursar Dr.M.Beula Ruby Kamalam, Dr.Anbu Selvan, Dr.Paul Jayakar and Richard Rajkumar.
“The Search Committee will interview the 13 candidates who are found eligible. This committee will shortlist two names and send to the American College Governing Council. So, all eyes are now on the Madurai Bishop because seven members of that governing council (Bishop is the president) will decide the next Principal candidate. Voting, merit and all aspects should be taken into account in that final meeting by the CSI Bishop of Madurai,” sources said.
The members in American College Principal Search Committee are Madurai Bishop, Dr.Sporgen, Dr.Martin and Pastor Rajasekaran. Tenure of current Principal and Secretary Dr.M.Davamani Christober ends on May 31st 2025 and his tenure is mired in several allegations, DVAC complaints, court cases and corruption accusations.
