MADURAI: The 5th State level intercollegiate non-teaching staff tournament for volleyball (men) and throwball (women) took place at Lady Doak College stadium in Madurai on 7th and 8th March 2025 with participation of various colleges.
Lady Doak College in Madurai had claimed the first place in women’s throwball followed by Mannar Thirumalai Naicker College here as runner-up team. Third place was won by American College in Madurai and V.V.Vanniaperumal College for Women at Virudhunagar got the fourth place in this tournament, according to a press release received from LDC yesterday. Totally five teams took part in women’s throwball event.
In men’s volleyball, nine teams participated and Ayya Nadar Janaki Ammal College secured the first place while Madurai Kamaraj University College came second and the third place went to Lady Doak College. Arul Anandar College stood fourth in this tournament. Cash prizes of Rs.20,000, Rs.15,000 and Rs.10,000 were awarded to the top three winners.
Capt.Pradeep Premkumar, Commanding Officer 2(TN) Naval Unit NCC-Madurai, was invited as chief guest for the inaugural function of this tournament. Dr.C.Ramesh, Head and Director of Physical Education in-charge of Department of Physical Education, Madurai Kamaraj University, was the chief guest for valedictory function and Ms.Shailaja Prasanna, General Manager, Thangamayil Jewellery-Madurai, was the guest of honour along with Dr.Raja, District Sports Officer, Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu, Madurai.
Dr.R.Beulah Jeyashree, Principal and Secretary, Lady Doak College, has said that the LDC was very happy to host the intercollegiate non-teaching staff tournament and felicitated the winners and all participating teams for their unity and sportsmanship.
The tournament was organized by Major Dr.T.Shantha Meena, Director of Physical Education and NCC Officer of Lady Doak College and Dr.M.Hemalatha, Director of Physical Education (SF), LDC with support from non-teaching staff, faculty and students of the college, the press release added.
