CHENNAI: The Southern Railway has taken important quick steps for rail users to keep them updated about changes in train services due to heavy rains forecast for Chennai and other districts in Tamil Nadu by the Met department from October 15th to October 18th 2024.
Passengers can get train schedule information from the Southern Railway social media handles for live updates or the railway passengers can reach out to the 24X7 railway helpline at 139. Also, the Chennai Division has helpline numbers 044- 25330952 and 044-25330953, a press release received from Southern Railway has informed today.
Railway authorities has appealed to passengers to remain cautious and plan their journeys which are essentially required, because severe heavy rains could lead to disruptions in train services. The Southern Railway has enhanced measures to mitigate water-logged areas to detect if any structural risks from flooding, and railway engineering teams are on high alert to address emergencies swiftly, the press release said.
There is also intensive monitoring of railway bridges and subways, speed regulation of trains and active communication channels for passengers to give train schedule information and at the same time the Southern Railway is closely coordinating with weather monitoring agencies and local authorities to ensure the safety of all passengers during this period of heavy rains.
