MADURAI: Organ donation has been saving several lives thanks to the donors and of course there is the regular blood donation by blood donors that is helping in times of medical emergency for performing surgeries to patients.
Now, there is an equally important focus on skin donation after the Grace Kennett Foundation in Madurai had taken it up as a priority. That skin donation also needs donors was successfully showcased in Madurai on September 28th 2024 when the Rotary Club of Madurai Metropolis and Grace Kennett Foundation celebrated over 50 skin donor harvests at Grace Kennett Hospital in the city.
“The event had highlighted the Devi Crop Sciences-Rotary Community Skin Bank, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Madurai Metropolis (Rotary International District 3000) and Rotary Club of Canela Inspiracao (RI District 4670 Brazil), functioning for three years,’ a press release received here yesterday has informed.
Rotary District Governor Prof.Raja Govindasamy (RID 3000) was the chief guest along with guest of honour Rotary Past District Governor R.Theenachandran while club president S.Pandithurai, secretary Dr.U.T.Vassan and Grace Kennett Foundation CEO Dr.Augustus Dodd, spoke about the importance of skin donation for burns victims.
“Already 50 skin donor harvests were done at Grace Kennett Hospital in Madurai. Skin is harvested within six hours and can be preserved for up to five years,” the Rotary press release added while informing about the work being done by Grace Kennett Foundation in skin donor harvests.
