MADURAI: A large number of teaching and non-teaching staff of Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) here in Madurai have today created a storm and ripples inside the varsity campus by staging a protest and demanding that the November month salary for employees and pension for retired employees must be given immediately because “the date is already December 12th”.
Members of the JAC had entered into the university VC’s chamber today morning- on December 12th 2023- and stayed inside there for several hours by urging the MKU Vice-Chancellor Prof.J.Kumar to take quick steps for disbursing the salary and pension for November month. The associations led by JAC- that have been pleading for salary, pension and family pension include MKU Faculty Association, MKU Administrative Staff Association and MKU Pensioners Association, and they held negotiations with the VC and his staff today morning.
Sources told ‘Lotus Times’ media on December 12th 2023 at 4.30 pm that the Vice-Chancellor Prof.J.Kumar had sought time till December 18th of this month to give/ disburse salary and pension for university staff.
“We have requested the MKU Vice-Chancellor today to talk to the top level State government officials for our salary and pension issue. We went inside his office chamber here and sat there for more than 4 hours today on December 12th 2023. The VC did not speak at all for more than three hours, and finally today evening he said that he will not come to the VC office at all after December 18th 2023 if salary and pension are not paid to employees. So, he is intending to resign for our salary issue since MKU is facing huge financial crisis to pay monthly salary for staff,” association office-bearers told ‘Lotus Times’ here in Madurai today evening.
