MADURAI: A whopping Rs.40 lakhs was demanded as a ‘rate’ for the post of History Department Assistant Professor in a government aided college in Madurai city, a post that is reserved for SC-ST vacancy category.
Reliable sources told ‘LotusTimes’ www .lotustimes.org in Madurai on 1st January 2023 that interviews for history department assistant professor post took place in an aided college in Madurai in the first week of December 2022 “and the amount demanded from those SC candidates for the SC reserved post was about Rs.40 lakhs and it went up to even Rs.55 lakhs.”
“The candidates were aware of that rate fixed by the brokers and middlemen. This is the shame for getting a Assistant Professor post in a government-aided college in Madurai, because the candidates are also ready because the bribe that is given comes back as a huge salary paid to the assistant professors by the government,” sources said and added that the interview panel members on that day in that college will be aware of what happened in that aided college in Madurai city in the first week of December 2022.
Objections were raised in the selection interview meeting held in this college in the first week of December 2022 and some members on the interview panel tried to calm down those who raised objections for demanding money for assistant professor posting in the college in Madurai city.
Sources also said that the Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) administration may be aware of what took place in the interview and according to information available today, the merit candidate is yet to receive the appointment order and there were MKU representatives in the selection panel.
“Nine candidates attended the interview for assistant professor post in that aided college on that day in Madurai city. While some interview panel members suggested one name, there was objection from some members because they wanted merit to be okayed. This post is reserved for Scheduled Caste category. The MKU senior officials may be aware of that interview in the aided college in Madurai where Rs.40 lakhs was demanded for assistant professor post vacancy in History Department,” sources told ‘LotusTimes’ here today.
