Modi visit: Madurai Railway station is all set for Rs.440 crores upgradation works to start on 26th May 2022

MADURAI: The Southern Railway had made all arrangements for foundation stone laying for station redevelopment of Madurai Railway Junction to be done by Prime Minister Mr.Narendra Modi on 26th May 2022 at 5.45 pm at a function to be held in Chennai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium. In a press release received from the Madurai Division of Southern Railway here today, it was informed that a major redevelopment work of Madurai railway station is sanctioned to ease out the congestion, segregate passenger and parcel movement and to streamline vehicular traffic. There will be exclusive departure and arrival forecourt.

Escalators and stairways will get a major focus in this upgradation work so that passengers can have access to all platforms. FIRST FLOOR will have air concourse. New East terminal building with four floors, forecourt and driveway, ground floor all passenger amenities and office directly connected with passengers, commercial space in second floor, new multilevel car parking at East and West terminal to accommodate 250 cars, new multi-level two wheeler parking for 2,000 two wheeler parking place, subway directly connecting with Periyar Bus Stand to railway station, upgradation of all six platforms with new shelter-flooring etc, improvement of west terminal building etc. This is all at a total estimated cost of Rs.440 crores- to be completed in 26 months.
