MADURAI: The Madurai Urban district unit of BJP has today made a complaint to the Madurai District Collector Mr.S.Aneesh Sekhar urging him to prevent irregularities taking place in distribution of ‘Pongal’ gift hampers to people through ration shops.
A written representation to this effect was submitted to the district collector here on 8th January 2022 by the Madurai City BJP president Dr.P.Saravanan. “The Tamil Nadu State government had announced free gift hampers for pongal festival to be distributed through fair price shops. But, I am bringing to your attention that all the items are not being given to eligible ration cardholders. Also, the items are of poor quality,” the Madurai urban district president had alleged in his complaint.
Dr.Saravanan has said in the complaint letter that the State government had announced that totally 21 essential items for Pongal festival will be distributed through ration shops as gift hampers including the bag. However, some items are missing and not distributed to the people. “From January first week, these free Pongal gift hampers are being given to people through ration shops. The quality of some items is substandard and since not all the items are being given to ration card holders, the Madurai district collector should intervene and stop irregularities taking place in pongal hampers distribution,” the BJP’s Madurai city president Dr.Saravanan has said in his complaint which was submitted to the Madurai district collectorate here today.
