MADURAI: The reasons for declaring ancient historic city Madurai as the second capital of Tamil Nadu were highlighted at an interaction meeting held in Madurai on 21st August 2020. Mr.N.Jegatheesan, president, Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, spoke to ‘Lotus Times’ news website here today on why Madurai will be the ideal place to be the second capital of Tamil Nadu after Chennai.

“Madurai as second capital is the need of the hour. Many other States like Maharashtra, Karnataka, Chattisgarh etc have two capitals for their administrative convenience and for the benefit of people. Our Chennai city already has more than one crore population and lakhs of people as floating population daily. So, we appeal to the Tamil Nadu government to think of diversification-decentralization in the interest of people from southern districts,” Mr.N.Jegatheesan told ‘Lotus Times’- www.lotustimes.org- here after the interaction meeting held in Madurai today under the auspices of TN Chamber and all other chambers in southern districts. (An interaction meeting was held here today for Madurai to be declared as 2nd Capital of Tamil Nadu).

Mr.Jegatheesan spoke on behalf of the people of southern districts of Tamil Nadu pleading for second capital because it will help in local development, employment and reduce people’s hardships. “Madurai is the most ideal place. It is centrally located to reach south Tamil Nadu Our region needs industries and jobs. When there is a plea to set up Supreme Court Bench at Chennai, what is wrong in asking for making Madurai as second capital. Our request is justified,” the Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Mr.N.Jegatheesan has said.

He also pointed out that all the important State government offices- Directorate offices etc are located in Chennai and hence people from southern districts are travelling long distance even for a small official work. “We have airports, bus port, sea port and infrastructure besides manpower human resources. What we need now is a trigger for boosting up industrial activity, new industries and creation of jobs. If Madurai becomes second capital of Tamil Nadu after Chennai, offices will come here, attention increases and industries will come. So, we are pleading the Tamil Nadu government, Tamil Nadu CM and all sections to support Madurai as second capital of our State,” Mr.N.Jegatheesan said here today- 21st January 2020.

Tamil Nadu Revenue Minister Mr.R.B.Udhayakumar, TN Chamber senior president Mr.S.Rethinavelu and representatives from various chambers and trade bodies including TANSTIA took part in today’s meeting in Madurai.
