MKU orientation to faculty on digital teaching, learning

MADURAI: The Department of Management Studies, Directorate of Distance Education, Madurai Kamaraj University had organized a one week Online Faculty Development Programme on “Academic Excellence in Digital Teaching and Learning” from 1st to 7th July 2020.

During the present lockdown period, this FDP was an effort to provide mental health support and explain the opportunities, challenges, and strategies in implementing various digital teaching- learning tools to empower professors in teaching.

Discussions during this seven-day programme empowered professors emotionally, digitally, and also helped to know ‘how different online tools and methods will enhance the teaching and learning practices, a press release from MKU here on 7th July 2020 has said.

The FDP discussed newer forms of digital teaching that can enhance learning experience and provide guidance for students and staff as they adopt them. Experts from Mumbai and Chennai addressed and clarified
various questions of professors. “This will not only equip the graduates for the future but also ensure students and staffs are adapting in the use of digital technologies in academics, research and future employment,” the press release added.

In his inaugural address, MKU Vice Chancellor Prof.Dr.M.Krishnan has
mentioned that faculty development programmes are essential during this pandemic situation and will help faculty to engage their idle mind with experts’ lectures for enriching their knowledge. He also spoke about the poor students from villages around MKU and difficulties in teaching them through the online when these poor students are not having proper internet facility.
Prof.V.S.Vasantha, MKU Registrar in-charge, offered her felicitations at the valedictory function.

Dr.J.Vijayadurai, Director, Directorate of Distance Education, welcomed the gathering. There were totally 250 faculty members from different universities and colleges who participated. This programme was planned and organized by S.Ilayaraja Assistant Professor, MBA department and Organizing Secretary and Dr.R.Menaka, Head in-charge, Department of
Management Studies (DDE), Madurai Kamaraj University, according to the press release.
