MADURAI: By profession he is a political science professor. For passion, IAS coaching is his mission. The combination of both have made him a point of destination for those seeking success in civil services and other important competitive examinations.
Yes. Dr.P.Kanagaraj of Coimbatore is today a symbol of pride and an icon of service. It is no exaggeration because the free IAS coaching for students being offered by him only reflects his decades of resolve and his imbibed IAS spirit, which is I AM FOR STUDENTS. That is his IAS.
THREE AND FREE:
Dr.Kanagaraj, who is the Head of Department of Political Science at Government Arts College in Coimbatore, is hungry to hone up the skills of students and see them in good positions in all India civil services or public service commission posts.
“I am going with a three-point plan. The first is to provide free coaching for Civil Services and TNPSC. More than 80 candidates who took coaching under my tutelage are in good positions in IAS, IFS or IPS etc. And another 4,300 students have passed TNPSC and bank entrance tests. I am very happy for that, but there is much more to do,” Dr.Kanagaraj told ‘Lotus Times’ news website on 29th December 2019.
Another area he is focusing is empowerment of corporation school students for their future through career guidance and leadership sessions. His drive is to give successful orientation for school and college students. This ‘IAS professor’ also holds creativity programs for students by training them to do short films, painting etc.
“They did short films and albums on social issues. When they are creative, they can enter advertising, cinema and other fields. Talent tapping is what I am doing,” he explains. Students are also being given orientation in adversity management, career opportunities and other topics.
WHY IAS COACHING?
The political science professor whose coaching centre is at Dr.Nanjuppa Road in Coimbatore narrated the reason why he is passionate about civil services coaching.
“I went up to the final interview level. With that knowledge and experience, I wanted to provide coaching. In the last about 15 years, my students tasted success,” Dr.Kanagaraj who studied in JNU and took coaching in Delhi, says.
FUTURE PLANS:
The next major plan of this humble trainer is to offer free residential coaching programme to selected candidates from all over the country.
“From all States, I want to get civil service aspirants for four month coaching. maybe two or three from each State. This is my dream for which my friends and well-wishers are supporting me. I must thank Mr.Senthilkumar, Mr.Chandran and Mr.Rajendran. The support of Spectrum Mall, Chennai Silks and Sruthi Foundation is great and their spirit to take part in a social cause is amazing,” says Dr.Kanagaraj.
He is perfectly balancing his work between college and coaching. If it is Sunday, it is about taking class. The professor gives attention to arts students and coaching in Tamil too.
“I train students in general studies and interviews. Being a political science professor. that subject is taught for optional subject. I am able to do something for my society and students because of my family support and wife Vennila who is a government school teacher,” says Dr.Kanagaraj.
He thanks the media and Coimbatore journalists for their support in his endeavors. “One person who is a friend, godfather and a turning point in my life is Dr.A.Thanikodi,” he recalls.
The new year 2020 has come with a good news for him as he was chosen as one of the top 10 personalities of Tamil Nadu by Ananda Vikatan Group. Really, his service is taking students to civil services and this professor silently cherishes their success from Coimbatore.
