MADURAI: The State leaders of BJP in Tamil Nadu countered the opposition parties’ criticism over the July 21st speech of Mr.La.Ganesan in Rajya Sabha on the issue of languages and eighth schedule.

“Understand the substance of his argument. What LG said was that Tamil language did not develop in Tamil Nadu, Hindi could not be learnt by people and only English became dominant and prominent in the State. What is wrong in that speech,” Mrs.Vanathi Srinivasan, BJP State general secretary, had questioned in a discussion on Thanthi TV news channel on July 22nd evening.

She took on the critics by saying that Mr.La.Ganesan was not concerned about Hindi but only Tamil language.

“There is no link between what he said and your criticism. Why we should be stopped from learning Hindi as a language? We are denied opportunity to learn Hindi in Tamil Nadu. The BJP and our Rajya Sabha MP did not speak on compulsory Hindi…but our question is what is wrong in learning more languages,” she countered the opposition in the panel discussion.

STOP ENGLISH DOMINATION:

Mrs.Vanathi Srinivasan said that the views of Mr.La.Ganesan must be seen in right perspective and he only wanted the Centre and State government to promote and protect all our Indian languages.

In Rajya Sabha, Mr.La.Ganesan spoke during the short duration discussion on a private member’s legislative business bill for consideration and passing Constitution Amendment Bill 2016 for inclusion of two languages (Koadava and Tulu) in the Eighth Schedule.

He expressed concern that English is dominating in Tamil Nadu and cautioned hat it should not become mother tongue in the future because of wrong priorities on the language issue.
