CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu government’s announcement of opening TASMAC shops in the State from 7th May was strongly opposed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

It has today – on 5th May 2020- urged the State government to reconsider and withdraw this ill-conceived decision because of the steep increase in number of Corona positive cases and in the interests of women of Tamil Nadu and their families.

Mr.L.Murugan, Tamil Nadu BJP State president has issued a press statement today condemning the illogical decision of opening TASMAC liquor shops from 7th May.

“The announcement made yesterday is shocking because the Corona lockdown is still there. At a time when the medical fraternity is talking about improving the body immunity and disease resistance power of our people through nutrition and other means, how can the State open liquor shops and push them towards alcohol addiction,” the BJP State president had questioned.

He said that opening of TASMAC shops will be an insult to lakhs of frontline workers, doctors, nurses, officials and police who are fighting the battle against Coronavirus.
