MADURAI: The first day of the four-day total lockdown announced by Tamil Nadu State government from 26th to 29th April 2020 had received overwhelming support from the people of Madurai today.

It is a virtual thumbs up from this temple city as they joined the battle against Coronavirus. There is a complete silence on the streets, shops are closed and roads are deserted thereby sending out a strong message that the residents are with the authorities extending their support to district administration, State and Central governments in this important round of lockdown.

The full closure is being implemented from today in Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore, Salem and Tirupur in an attempt to bring down the positive cases and prevent spread of Coronavirus infection.

There is no movement of vehicles or people (barring the exempted services and permitted vehicles) at all places in Madurai city- Kamarajar Salai, East Veli Street, Nelpettai, Goripalayam, Munichalai, Therkuvasal etc.
City police are fully monitoring the lockdown and even the few vehicles that are out on streets are being checked.
