MADURAI: In an important move taken by judiciary and police today, 51 prisoners who were lodged in the Madurai Central Prison here have been allowed to come out on parole because of Coronavirus effect.
As a preventive measure, authorities took decision for small and petty case inmates of Madurai prison to be freed on personal surety and bond to prevent overcrowding in the jail premises. Today- 21st March 2020- they walked out of the prison.
A special meeting was held to discuss this important matter in which High Court Judges, senior police officials, district judges and others participated.
South Zone IG Mr.Shanmugha Rajeswaran, Madurai district SP Mr.Manivannan, Law and Order Deputy Commissioner Mr.Karthick, inspectors of police stations and 12 district judges took part in this meeting after which select jail inmates were allowed to walk out of the prison.
While 47 prisoners who were released from the jail belong to Madurai, two belong to Virudhunagar and two are from Sivaganga district.
