MADURAI: Three construction workers involved in Smart City project works in Madurai were killed as lorry wheels went over them in the early morning hours today- 6th February 2020- while they were sleeping.
The workers were sleeping after completing their work at the worksite in Madichiam here. They belong to Salem.
Yesterday, the deceased workers slept behind the lorry. According to information available, the workers were sleeping on the rear side of the lorry and driver took vehicle reverse without noticing them.
Those killed were Periyasamy, Venkatesh who died on the spot. Another person whose legs were crushed in the incident died after he was admitted to the GRH here. Police are investigating the case. Local people have expressed their shock and panic over the night time construction works undertaken in the city and the safety of workers.
