Southern Railway new GM assumes charge in Chennai; U.Subba Rao is a second generation top railway officer in his family

MADURAI: Mr.U.Subba Rao has assumed charge as new General Manager of Southern Railway in Chennai today-August 1st 2026. He served as GM of Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai prior to this assignment.

He is a railway officer belonging to the 1987 batch of the Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineering and he has held several key leadership positions across various zonal railways and production units in the country.

Mr.U.Subba Rao succeeds Mr.R.N.Singh who superannuated yesterday and he comes from a family legacy of exemplary public service as a second generation railway officer, succeeding his father Mr.U.Narasimha Rao who retired as Chief Planning and Design Engineering from South Central Railway, according to a press release received from Southern Railway today evening.
