MADURAI: Learning in the evening maybe on a declining trend in the present context of higher education which puts more focus on the formal mode. But, the Madurai Kamaraj University Evening College at Alagarkoil Road in Madurai still remains a hot spot in the city to get a degree for those who miss in the morning, but are keen to study in the evening.
What was started in the year 1969 to provide study options in the evening continues to light up the learning life of those who want to join a course and get their degree. That is visible in this academic year 2026-27 admissions also as this campus turns out to be the place to pursue their study, especially form the working people.
“We are presently offering 8 undergraduate courses an three PG courses. Our fees is very nominal and it is like government fees. Thanks to our Madurai Kamaraj University for its support, we are able to sustain and the admission number is increasing,” Dr.K.Chandrasekaran, Director, MKU Evening College, has said when ‘Lotus Times’ visited the campus on July 11th 2026.
SAME QUALITY OF MORNING CLASSES:
This college is particularly seeing good interest from those who want to do BBA or MBA course during evening time to enhance their career options.
“MBA stands as a highlight for our college ever since it was started in the year 2019. We have experienced faculty and the syllabus is same like what is offered elsewhere in the morning time. This is also a regular course with daily classes in the evening from 5.30 pm to 8.30 pm. We have MBA course in HR, marketing and finance. The total student strength is 60 and already we had 40 candidates who joined this course thanks to our 14 faculty members who provide quality teaching in management programs,” Dr.K.Chandrasekaran had stressed.
In MKU Evening College, there are 220 students who are doing their courses in the evening time right now and they have same curriculum, assignments, internals and seminars etc.
