MADURAI: The role of students in environment protection and tackling the effects of climate change was emphasized at the World Environment Day celebration event held at Al-Ameen Higher Secondary School in K.Pudur in Madurai on June 5th 2026.

A special awareness programme was conducted in school campus by Tamil Nadu Science Forum with the support of forest department and active campaigners who are involved in environment protection mission in Madurai.

Dr.M.Rajesh of The American College had delivered a lecture on global climate change and role of students by stressing the importance of growing trees, global warming, greenhouse gases and how food supply chain gets affected due to climate change threats, according to a press release received from the school yesterday.

Saplings were planted by students and a pledge was administered to them to make them actively participate in environment protection activities.

Dr.Antony Paul, president, Tamil Nadu Science Forum-Madurai, Dr.K.Kannan, district secretary and school headmaster Mr.S.Sheik Nabi were among those who addressed the students along with Prof.Ezhil from TNSF and assistant headmasters of Al-Ameen School-Mr.Mohamed Rabi and Mr.Alkaj Mohamed besides Tamil teacher Mr.Thowfiq Raja.

“The environment protection event had created a positive impact among our students thanks to the Tamil Nadu Science Forum members and Forest Range Officer Venish who provided tree saplings for our school. Our thanks to TNSF member Mr.Varadharajan and Thulir Illam coordinator Mr.Kamesh for their support,” the press release said.

Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu Science Forum also carried out tree planting at schools in Meenakshipuram, Nesaneri and Chengappadai.
