MADURAI: The world famous Aravind Eye Hospital in Madurai had an eye-opening memorable day here today on May 16th 2026 as eye cancer survivors and their families had rallied to thank the doctors by saying ‘save vision, save eye and save life’.
A special event was organized by Aravind Eye Hospital in Madurai today to mark Retinoblastoma Awareness Week by holding an awareness rally for general public about eye cancer which was taken from Anna Bus Stand to Aravind Eye Hospital in the city with participation of 200 staff nurses of Aravind Eye Care System and family members of those patients who had recovered successfully from eye cancer treatment.
Dr.S.Vanitha, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), had flagged off the eye care walkathon rally in the presence of Dr.Usha Kim, chief of Orbit Department and Regional HR Director of Aravind Eye Care System in Madurai.
A special session was also conducted at Arvaind Eye Hospital in Madurai today-May 16th 2026- to raise the affected families’ confidence level and this programme was addressed by Aravind Eye Hospital Chairman Dr.R.D.Raveendran and senior ophthalmologist Dr.Usha Kim while hospital PRO Mr.S.G.Ramanathan and his team took efforts to create public awareness about eye cancer treatment facility that is available in Madurai.
The Retinoblasty Awareness Week 2026 is being observed by highlighting orbit, oculoplasty, ocular oncology and ocular prosthetic services that are available with top quality team at Aravind Eye Hospital in Madurai.
“Ring of Hope is a special program started in Aravind Eye Hospital in Madurai more than 20 years back and till now our hospital had successfully treated 16,601 persons for eye cancer and their families are now very happy. It is a life-saving eye care treatment that made the affected persons see….the families which got shattered because of eye cancer have today thanked our eye doctors.. it is curable and we can save our children,” the PRO of Aravind Eye Hospital in Madurai Mr.SG.Ramanathan has said today after the rally which explained that the symptoms are unilateral white reflex in the eye, bulged eyes, bilateral white reflex etc.
