TIRUNELVELI: The Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) was brought about only to protect the interests and safety of religious minorities in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, BJP State Secretary Prof.Dr.R.Srinivasan has said.
“In a country like Pakistan, people belonging to religious minorities especially Hindus are being subjected to religious persecution. It is our bounden duty to protect the Hindus and Sikhs etc who suffer State harassment day in day out,” he said while addressing a meeting held at Thisayanvilai in Tirunelveli district on 1st January 2020 to explain the salient features of CAA.
OUR MORAL RESPONSIBILITY:
Prof.Dr.Srinivasan had explained that till India got Independence in 1947 all were Indians since there was no Pakistan or Bangladesh. “Only because Jinnah asked for partition and Pakistan became a separate country, our people had to go there…..When religious minorities are facing religious persecution, it is our moral responsibility to take them back and protect their interests.” he added.
The BJP leader also lashed out at DMK and the Congress party for spreading misinformation among the people for political gains.
“They see communal and religion in everything, they are for vote bank politics only. These parties are trying to create fear among the Muslims in our country. Only to counter them with facts and truth, the BJP is holding meetings all over the country. Muslims should not fall into the trap of DMK,” Prof.Dr.Srinivasan had cautioned.
Around 500 people attended this special meeting on CAA in Tirunelveli district. P.Sivaji, BJP’s SC Morcha social media State office-bearer, Murali Ramasamy, OBC Wing social media convener and Krishna Kumar from the IT Wing were among those who were present.
