MADURAI: The election schedule for electing new office-bearers of Tamil Nadu Retired College Teachers’ Association (TANRECTA) has been released and a three-member poll panel has been constituted to conduct the 2026 elections for State office-bearer posts.

As per the schedule, nominations can be filed from February 18th to 27th up to 5 pm, and scrutiny of nominations will take place on February 28th 2026. The list of eligible candidates will be released on the same day, withdrawal of nominations will be permitted upto 5 pm on March 7th 2026 and the final list of candidates will be published on March 8th 2026, according to a press release received from the association yesterday.

The three-member election panel was formed at State executive committee meeeting held in Tiruchi on February 5th 2026 and the members are Prof.K.John Kumar, former professor of Bishop Heber College in Tiruchi who will be the convener, Prof.M.Abdul Kadir, former Principal of Wakf Board College in Madurai and Prof.G.Manivannan, former professor of Government College at Pudukottai as members.

“TANRECTA is a registered State-level body functioning since the year 2000 with 33 branches across Tamil Nadu. The current term of present office-bearers will be over in March 2026. This association is actively engaged in safeguarding the welfare of retired college teachers in the State by facilitating their pension-related matters, submission of life certificates, settlement of family pensions etc, the press release said and added that it acts as a liaison with government departments to address pensioners’ grievances.

Now, elections will be held to fill seven State-level posts and they include president, general secretary and treasurer (one each), and two posts each for vice-president and joint secretary, with representation from both male and female members.

If more than one nomination is received for any post, the election will be conducted on March 24th 2026 at Sri Sangeethas Hotel near central busstand in Tiruchi and results will be announced on the same day, according to TANRECTA press release.
