MADURAI: An official press release was issued by the Lok Bhavan in Chennai today citing 13 reasons on why Tamil Nadu Govenror Mr.R.N.Ravi had declined to read the State government speech in the Governor’s address in TN Legislative Assembly on January 20th 2026 when the assembly session began in the morning today.

The Governor’s mike was repeatedly switched off and he was not allowed to speak, the press release from TN Governor’s office has said as the first reason and it further said that the speech contains numerous unsubstantiated claims and misleading statements.

“Claim that the State attracted huge investments to the tune of over Rs.12 lakh crores is far from truth because many of the MoUs with prospective investors remain only on paper. Acutal investment is hardly a fraction of it. Investment data shows that Tamil Nadu is becoming less attractive for investors,” the Lok Bhavan press release has said in the list of reasons why the Governor declined to speak in the State Assembly today morning.

Few other reasons are that women safety issue is totally ignored in the speech given to the Governor even though there is alarming increase of POCSO cases and 33 per cent increase in incidents of sexual molestation of women, and rampant prevalence of narcotics and drugs.

“Number of suicides is increasing in Tamil Nadu and there are 65 suicides everyday in the State. Tamil Nadu is being referred as suicide capital. But this point was bypassed by the State govenrment. Decline in quality of higher education, vacant faculty positions, hurting of devotees of temples, problems faced by MSMEs and widespread discontentment among lower rung employees in almost all sectors are some of the reasons for the Governor’s decision because there was no mention of ways to address their genuine grievances. National anthem is yet again insulted and disregarded in the Assembly,” the Lok Bhavan press release has said today.
