IIT-Bombay recognizes Lady Doak College in Madurai as its Geospatial Knowledge Centre, opens up vast sources for opportunities to students

LDC Principal receives IIT Bombay reocgnition from Madurai District Collector on Nov 3rd 2025.

MADURAI: The Lady Doak College in Madurai has been officially recognized as Open Source Geospatial Knowledge Centre of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay for its FOSSEE project (free/libre and open source software for education.

A certificate of recognition was handed over to LDC Principal and Secretary Dr.R.Beulah Jeyashree by Madurai District Collector Mr.K.J.Praveen Kumar at the district collectorate here on November 3rd 2025 in the presence of Mr.Mohamed Kasim Khan, National Coordinator and Senior Research Scientist of FOSSEE GIS at IIT Bombay and Dr.Padmaja, faculty coordinator for Open Source Geospatial Knowledge Centre in Madurai district and Mrs.Lakshmi, GIS expert at LDC, according to a press release received from the college yesterday.

“With this recognition, LDC shall have a chance to onboard its students to the coded National Geospatial Internship….from potential government agencies and industry in addition to conducting summer/winter schools, open source geospatial product development, faculty development programs etc. The college was already conferred Best College Award in 2024 as a part of the National Geospatial Awards 2024 for its committed efforts in mapping resources on its campus by using open source tools and AI technology,” the press release added.
