MADURAI: The Madurai Division of Southern Railway has set a new earning record in a single day on October 5th 2025 by earning Rs.1.03 crore from the sale of 83,256 unreserved tickets for all the trains put together from this division, and it is the highest so far in this financial year.
To clear the festival holidays rush, two special trains were also operated in the Madurai Division on that day- October 5th 2025- from Madurai to Tambaram and Tirunelveli to Tambaram as unreserved special trains, in addition to the regular trains.
“The MEMU unreserved special train number 06162 Madurai-Tambaram had carried 1,200 passengers from Madurai, Sholavandan and Dindigul while the Tirunelveli unreserved special train to Tambaram (number 06014) had carried over 2,000 passengers from this division to Chennai. With 17 unreserved coaches, adequate space was provided for comfortable travel and the queue system at railway platform had helped to avoid rushing of passengers to get into the coach on arrival of train thanks to the railway officials, RPF, GRP and commercial branch staff who took adequate steps to ensure crowd management,” according to a press release from the Madurai Division of Southern Railway here today.
Railway officers were deployed to coordinate with Railway Protection Force and GRP for handling the passengers rush during this festival holidays, and especially on October 5th 2025 (Sunday) when the people were returning after the festival holidays.
