MADURAI: India had today paid homage and tributes to Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi on his 156th birth anniversary by recalling the significance of the day – October 2nd of every year for every Indian.

And, Madurai too has celebrated Gandhi Jayanti in a devout manner because this place has a special influence in Gandhiji’s life and set a new beginning of national awakening for freedom struggle in a big way.

Thousands of people from various walks of life and from different political parties had paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at the Gandhi Memorial Museum in Madurai today-October 2nd 2025-recalling his inspiring saga for country’s freedom, values and secularism etc.

But, what stands out is the dedicated duty being rendered every day by the employees who are working in Gandhi Museum in Madurai. For them, it is Gandhi Jayanti everyday, and they maintain the museum in public memory with their commitment to duty as per the message of Mahatma Gandhi.

Starting from Gandhi Memorial Museum secretary Mr.K.R.Nanda Rao to the education officer to typist and to the sanitary workers who toil to keep this museum premises tidy and clean for the tourists and daily visitors, it is October 2nd every day.

“The Madurai Gandhi Museum is very significant in our country’s history. Gandhiji visited Madurai five times and his evolution in our freedom struggle happened in Madurai starting with his attire. Our staff and EC members paid their respects to the Mahatma early in the morning and it is great to see a huge number of people coming here to pay homage to our Father of the Nation,” Mr.K.R.Nanda Rao, secretary, Gandhi Memorial Museum, has said today while a huge contingent of people from all political parties, organizations, voluntary groups, colleges, schools and general public had turned up to remember the sacrifices and success of Mahatma Gandhi in attaining India’s freedom.
