
MADURAI: A major initiative is being taken from Madurai to showcase the travel and tourism potential that is available in Tamil Nadu and make the State as a top travel destination in the country.
Tamil Nadu Travel Expo 2025 is being organised in Madurai from September 26th to September 28th 2025 at IDA Scudder Auditorium-Velammal Village in Madurai by inviting various stakeholders from tourism sector for the buyer-seller meet where the tourism products available in Tamil Nadu will be explained as a first-hand experiential positioning to get more tourists to the State.
A press meet was organized in Madurai today-September 24th 2025- to brief the mediapersons about the Tamil Nadu Travel Expo which is being organized here jointly by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Madurai Zone along with Travel Club Madurai with the support of Ministry of Tourism of Government of India, Tamil Nadu Tourism Department and South India Hotels and Restaurants Association (SIHRA).
“Our objective is to promote tourism in Tamil Nadu. The tourists number must increase for our State. In this Tamil Nadu Travel Expo 2025, we are going to position Tamil Nadu as a premier travel destination by focusing on temple tourism, wedding tourism, medical tourism, heritage tourism etc. There will be B2B buyer-seller meetings, and we want to showcase our tourism products firsthand to enable out tourism and travel players to expand their market reach. It will be a landmark event for tourism in Tamil Nadu,” Mr.Sundar Singaram, Director (Operations), South India Hotels and Restaurants Association (SIHRA), told reporters at the press meet in Madurai today.
Dr.G.Vasudevan, Managing Director of Fortune Pandiyan Hotel in Madurai and co-convener of the expo, has said that the focus will be on pilgrimage tourism, water sports, etc and at the same time the places Keeladi will be promoted.
“We want to make some places in Madurai region as tourism assets….We are thinking of creating wedding destinations, promote resorts for leisure travel, encourage wedding tourism in our region because southern Tamil Nadu is neglected even though it has a huge travel, pilgrimage and tourism potential to attract visitors,” Dr.G.Vasudevan has said.
FIVE SPOTS IDENTIFIED IN MADURAI:
Mr.Ashwin R.Desai, CII Chairman-Madurai, has stressed that five spots in Madurai area have been identified for ‘experiential tourism’ and tourists will be attracted in a big way for Madurai Jallikattu, jasmine flowers, Vilachery dolls, village tourism etc.
“Tamil Nadu has now slipped to third position in India in tourist numbers…..after Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra. Tourism field has challenges to be faced due to demand-supply issues. The only solution is to increase the tourists’ footfalls for our State. Hotels, transport, logistics, hospitality etc will have a multiplier effect for our Tamil Nadu’s State economy starting from tender coconut seller to 5-Star hotels. There are going to be about 150 sellers and we are happy that this is a industry-sponsored event in Madurai to promote travel and tourism sector. The small players in tourism and hotel sector will also get a chance to interact with the buyers from September 26th 28th in B2B buyer-seller meetings, and this is a major promotional event for travel and tourism destinations in Madurai and Tamil Nadu,” Mr.Sundar Singaram has said.
Dr.G.Vasudevan, Mr.Ashwin Desai and Mr.Sundar Singaram have emphasized that aggressive marketing strategy is required in Tamil Nadu for tourism promotion through family tours, village tourism, events holding, Chithirai festival visits in Madurai, leisure travel, medical tourism, wedding destinations, culture and heritage etc.
Mr.Rajiv Jeyabalan, vice-chairman, CII-Madurai and other office-bearers were among those who were present at today’s press meet in Madurai to give some basic public information details about the upcoming travel expo.
