MADURAI: Around 100 pensioners of Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) had once again staged a protest fast in the varsity campus in Madurai today- on August 19th 2024- urging the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Mr.M.K.Stalin to sign and clear the file that is pending on his table so that they can get their monthly pension in bank accounts immediately.
The Madurai Kamaraj University Pensioners’ Association has today said that it is being forced to hold a fast hunger strike again and again because the university monthly pension was not received yet from MKU and the date today is August 19th.
Dr.A.Srinivasan, MKU Pensioners Association president, Mr.T.Zaffarulla, vice-president, Mr.A.Swaminathan, association secretary, along with a large number of MKU pensioners including women, had participated in the pension demand protest in varsity campus today.
“The State government is a guarantor for staff salary and pension of university employees, of all universities. We are appealing to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Mr.M.K.Stalin to give us a permanent solution to MKU financial crisis, and to the pensioners who are unable to manage their facilities. The State government can try to give a one-time corpus fund to MKU so that staff and pensioners can be paid on time. Audit objections should not be linked to our monthly pension. What is the wrong we committed? This university is under State government control… Every month we are struggling for our monthly pension, and this is happening for the last one year. Audit objections are not about pensioners or connected to pensioners. So, give us our pension on time every month,” Dr.A.Srinivasan and Mr.A.Swaminathan have appealed from the protest venue in MKU campus today on August 19th 2024 on behalf of 1,202 MKU pensioners who are waiting to hear a good news about their July month pension from Chief Minister Mr.Stalin and the IAS officers looking after MKU affairs.
