
MADURAI: The Divisional Railway Manager of Madurai Division Mr.Sharad Srivastava had today visited their home and personally thanked the couple who alerted the railway staff and averted a train accident near Bagavathipuram railway station near Sengottai in Tamil Nadu at midnight hours on February 25th 2024.
Mrs.Vadakuthiyal and Mr.Shanmugayya were instrumental in averting train accident at Puliyarai in between Bagavathipuram and Aryankavu railway stations at around 1.10 am (midnight of February 25th 2024 Sunday). Because of their alert, the train loco pilot Mr.Moses had stopped the train 100 metres before the spot.
“The Divisional Railway Manager had personally visited and thanked the couple in their house, and appreciated them for their timely alert in averting train accident. A lorry which was carrying plywood sheets had fallen on the railway track suddenly. Hearing the sudden thunder sound, the couple Shanmugayya and Vadakuthiyal who live nearby came out and saw the fallen lorry on the railway track. They know that Tirunelveli-Palakkad Palaruvi train will come at that time, and so they immediately showed torch lights and move them so that the train driver will come to know…..and they went towards the Bagavathipuram track. The train stopped and accident averted,” a press release from the Madurai Railway Division has informed today.
The Divisional Railway Manager met the couple at Puliyarai in their home today- on March 1st 2024- and gave them an appreciation certificate from the railways for preventing a train accident. Senior railway officers were present along with the DRM when this couple were thanked and congratulated because the same husband and wife had alerted the railways on an earlier occasion also at the time of floods.
