MADURAI: Fundamental Rights as enshrined in the Indian Constitution for citizens will have high impact if they go together with the citizens’ Fundamental Duties also because people have certain responsibilities along with Rights, said Tamil Nadu BJP State Secretary Prof.Dr.R.Srinivasan, at a college event in Melur on October 10th 2017.
 
“Our Fundamental Duties are equally more important….The students / youth / young population of India must remember the golden words – Responsible Citizenship takes you to Enlightened Leadership,” he advised while speaking at the Youth Parliament conducted in Government Arts College at Melur in Madurai district.
 

TEAM WORK IN MADURAI MELUR:
 
Mr.M.Kannan, advocate and BJP District Vice-President of Madurai Rural District (Puranagar), along with his team from the BJP, took efforts to conduct this college event in Melur in Madurai district.  
 
The NSS unit of the Melur college in association with Nehru Yuva Kendra Madurai district, Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam Ilaignar Narpani Mandram of Chokkampatty and Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, had organised the Neighbourhood Youth Parliament to create awareness among college students on social / public issues.
 
PEOPLE’S ROLE IN DEMOCRACY:
 
 
Prof.Dr.Srinivasan had emphasised that voting in an election alone is not the meaning of democracy.
 
“What is the people’s role has to be understood in an ancient / vibrant democratic country like India…..Youth too can give solutions to our problems…..Celebrating the public opinion is true democracy and hence the active participation of people in public affairs and questioning is very important,” he added.
 
Dr.Srinivasan, who is an expert in HR management, told the college students / youth to attend Gram Sabha meetings because that will be the starting point to understand the depth of local issues and people’s problems.
 
“Without doing our duties and without discharging our responsibilities, there is no point in talking about our Rights alone. Duties and Rights go together…..Be self-critical, know your weakness, know your difficulties……It is a great demographic advantage for India because it has the large productive age group of people, youth population of 40 per cent in the age group of 18 to 35 years,” he said while elaborating the meaning of democracy.
 
DISCUSSION ON 12 ISSUES:
 
 
The Youth Parliament in Melur Government Arts College had discussed 12 topic including education, health-family welfare, sanitation and nutrition, cleanliness and environment, women empowerment, rural development, population and demographic advantage gender equality and skill development, volunteerism by youth.
 
Melur College Principal Dr.Chandran and a host of experts including Mr.Jawahar of Nehru Yuva Kendra Madurai district, Mr.Manohar, Mr.Mohd.Azharuddin, Mr.M. Kannan, Mr.Mohd.Nazzer, and BJP team comprising Mr.Sankar Pandi, Mr.Raja Sampathkumar, Mr.Pudur Praveen Raj, were among those who attended the Melur meeting on October 10th 2017.
