
At American College in Madurai on March 30th 2026 in GST national seminar by Economics Dept.
MADURAI: Economics and trade experts have today voiced their suggestions to make India as a top economy in the world with its demographic, development and human resource advantages by leveraging the GST 2.0 reforms announced by the present government at the Centre which is headed by Prime Minister Mr.Narendra Modi.
The Postgraduate & Research Department of Economics of The American College in Madurai had organized ‘NSGST-2026’ national seminar in the college campus here today-March 30th 2026- on the theme “Taxing for Growth: Role of GST in unifying southern States of India”, with funding support from the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR)’s Southern Regional Centre in Hyderabad.
“The GST revenue collection of India is significantly increasing from 2017 July onwards. Our GST source collection is right now Rs.22 LAKHS CRORES thanks to the active role being played by our trade and industry in India. The southern States are contributing up to 18 per cent of the total GST collection in India. Our country’s target is to increase GST revenue to Rs.30 LAKH CRORES soon and it is a part of our Viksit Bharat developed India goal,” Prof.Kumar Molugaram, Vice-Chancellor of Osmania University and Chairman of ICSSR-SRC, Hyderabad, has said in Madurai today.
Mr.Sudhakar Reddy, Dean-Faculty of Science, Osmania University and Director of ICSSR Southern Regional Centre-Hyderabad, has said in his chief guest address that GST rate cut through GST Reforms 2.0 is for a positive transformational impact on Indian economy and it is not just for a transaction mode change for GST payment.
“All the GST issues will be resolved in a phased manner. In order to get right feedback and field insights, we are organizing national seminars to make people understand about GST 2.0 reforms and also get some good feedback to forward to the Government of India through our ICSSR as an advisory body. We are studying the impact of GST 2.0 in southern States and we have now found that GST payers are increasing in number. So a thorough formalization of our economy taking place right now thanks to GST 2.0,” he added.
Dr.J.Paul Jayakar, Principal and Secretary of The American College-Madurai, had delivered the presidential address at the inaugural function in Madurai today while Dr.S.Jeyarani, associate professor and Head (UG) of economics department, had welcomed the gathering.
The trade, industry and economics experts who were invited for addressing the GST sessions at American College in Madurai today include veterans like Mr.S.Rethinavelu along with Mr.Sampath of MADITSSIA, Mr.Daniel Chellappa, Dr.Alagarsami as a legal expert and Dr.Pushparaj from the Madurai Kamaraj University, Mr.T.E.Togesh from CREDAI.
Dr.T.Amose, assistant professor, Department of Economics, had proposed a vote of thanks at this seminar which was attended by American College Bursar Dr.M.Beaula Ruby Kamalam and Vice-Principal Dr.S.C.B.Samuel Anbu Selvam at the inaugural function today morning- March 30th 2026.
