CHENNAI: Senior neuro physician and neurosurgeon in Chennai Dr.K.Gireesh has cautioned the youth to understand the side effects that are caused due to consumption of drugs and how the habit of drugs will shatter the life completely.
“There are 86 billion neurons in our brain. If anyone consumes drugs, these neurons in the brain will go haywire thereby resulting in delusion, hallucination and paranoid features due to the alterations in neuro chemicals. We are bestowed by God with brain, heart, liver, lungs and intestines that function 24 hours in our body. So, use that God given brain to think, understand, reason and learn about the ills of drugs,” he stressed.
Neurosurgeon Dr.K.Gireesh was speaking at a webinar session on “Drug abuse: awareness and prevention’ which was organized by the Madras Chamber of Commerce and Industry on March 24th 2026 to spread a message on ‘say no to drugs and yes to life’.
He cautioned that communication among 86 billion neurons in the brain will be badly affected because of consumption of drugs, and he had also emphasized the role of teachers to identify students with altered behaviour and help them through counselling sessions in colleges.
Mr.P.Aravindhan, Additional Director, Narcotics Control Bureau-Chennai and Hyderabad Zonal Unit and Mr.Sai Prakash, Chairman and CEO, Sairam Group of Educational Institutions, spoke about the need for constant monitoring and conducting drug abuse awareness and prevention programmes to put the youth on right side of the life.
Mrs.K.Saraswathi, secretary general of MCCI, had welcomed the 100 participants of this webinar while Prof.N.Sridhar had proposed a vote of thanks, according to a press release yesterday.
