
MADURAI: As the famous ‘Chithirai Thiruvizha’ of Madurai is coming closer, a colourful book highlighting how children will celebrate this festival is being released here tomorrow-March 21st 2026.
The book titled ‘Sirargal Kondadum Chithirai Thiruvila‘ in Tamil is a special initiative by Francis Publications and it will be launched in association with the Book Guild of Madurai at 6 pm tomorrow at Rotary Hall in Viswanathapuram in the city.
“It is a 96 pages book in multi-colour and a first of its kind publication to document the famous Chithirai festival of Madurai for the public, especially the next generation with special focus on celebrations by the children through photographs. This book is a colourful spectrum of Chithirai festivities and I am sure that it will be a landmark publication that speaks of the cultural splendour of the famous Chithirai festival which is all about happiness and joy,” Mr.Nicholas Francis, Editor and Publisher, Francis Publications (94433-04776) Madurai, has said.
A BOOK WITH PEOPLE’S PARTICIPATION:
Mr.Nicholas Francis, who edited this book as a passionate publisher from Madurai, has shared his happiness by saying that the book had an active participation of people, students, culture and heritage enthusiasts, academicians and various other stakeholders who gave their inputs on the famous Chithirai festival.
“I thank the Book Guild of Madurai which has been carrying out various programs to promote the quality of life through book reading in Madurai. It is a formal network of book readers, book writers, book enthusiasts, literary professionals, media etc. The Book Guild of Madurai is celebrating its 5th anniversary by launching this concept book named ‘Sirargal Kondadum Chithirai Thiruvila‘ in which students are an important part,” he added.
Mr.Nicholas Francis has said that a competition was conducted in Sree Meenakshi Government Arts College for Women and Yadava College where students were asked to write poems, short stories and essays based on the Chithirai festival related photographs.
“The works of selected prize winning students have been featured in the book along with members of the Book Guild of Madurai. So, this is an inclusive book with participation of people,” he added.
Madurai District Collector Mr.K.J.Praveen Kumar will release the book at Rotary Hall in Viswanathapuram tomorrow evening and the first copy will be received by Mrs.Hamsapriya Ganesh of Mahatma Group of Schools-Madurai.
