MADURAI: The much awaited All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Thoppur in Madurai is getting ready in full swing as civil construction works are undergoing now at a fast pace in the huge premises here.
“The Madurai AIIMS medical college in this campus will be ready by July 2026 as per our present schedule and the complete AIIMS Madurai Hospital for patients will be ready by April 2027. Construction works are going on in full swing presently to complete the Madurai AIIMS project and we are now in the process of shifting from our temporary campus in Ramanathapuram to our permanent AIIMS campus in Madurai in a phased manner,” Dr.M.Hanumantha Rao, AIIMS Madurai Executive Director, told ‘Lotus Times’ English media news website in Madurai when contacted him over phone on March 12th 2026.
So, as per the present construction work schedule that is going on in Madurai AIIMS site, the total project will be 100 per cent over and completed in March 2027 with all civil works over and totally dedicated to the public here in a few months thereafter.
Our media ‘Lotus Times’ news website had sought reaction from AIIMS Madurai Executive Director Prof.Dr.M.Hanumantha Rao to get the current status details for an RTI application reply sought by Mr.R.Pandiaraja who wanted details about AIIMS Madurai latest status from the Government of India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in New Delhi.
“The total project value of Madurai AIIMS is Rs.2,022 crores. The present status of completion is 47 per cent. The present works completion per centage is 47 per cent. The final target completion of Madurai AIIMS is October 2026. The funds received from budget allocation for Madurai AIIMS is Rs.471.02 crores and the completed percentage of construction works is 47 per cent as on October 31st 2025 and the final target completion of Madurai AIIMS is October 2026,” the RTI reply from Government of India Mr.Dharm Bir Kumar Singh which was signed by him dated March 5th 2026 has said in his official letter to RTI applicant R.Pandiaraja who had sent RTI application dated January 19th 2026 and the reply from the government came on March 5th 2026.
