MADURAI: A host of projects and schemes of various Ministries of Government of India are ready for inauguration during Prime Minister Mr.Narendra Modi’s visit to Madurai tomorrow- March 1st 2026- and the railway projects get a special attention.

Tomorrow, the Prime Minister will inaugurate eight redeveloped Amrit stations and also dedicate the Chennai Beach-Chennai Egmore 4th line project, according to a press release received from the Southern Railway.

On March 1st 2026, PM Modi is inaugurating eight railway stations redeveloped in Tamil Nadu under Amrit Scheme and they are Morappur railway station, Pollachi Junction railway station, Bommidi, Karaikkudi, Srivilliputtur, Sholavandan, Thiruvarur and Manaparai rilway station.

These eight railway stations were redeveloped at a total cost of Rs.105 crores with upgraded station buildings, improved passenger areas, enhanced platform shelters, spacious waiting halls, improved sanitation facilities, lifts, foot over bridges, better vehicle parking and digital passenger information systems, the railway press release added.

“The Prime Minister’s main function will be held at AAI premises near Madurai airport in Perungudi here and that event will be live streamed from these locations for the public to watch. He is also dedicating to the nation the Chennai Beach-Chennai Egmore 4th line project built at a cost of Rs.273 crores. It helps in strengthening Chennai’s suburban rail network. These projects represent a major step in TN’s railway modernisation projects for greater connectivity,” the Southern Railway has said in a press release and added that the total cost of railway projects being inaugurated by the Prime Minister tomorrow from Madurai is Rs.378 crores.

With the inauguration of eight redeveloped railway stations on March 1st 2026, Tamil Nadu will have a total of 17 redeveloped Amrit stations of the total 77 railway stations identified under Amrit scheme and already nine Amrit stations were inaugurated by the Prime Minister in May 2025, the southern railway has said by giving Tamil Nadu details.
