MADURAI: The Madurai Kamaraj University SC/ST Employees’ Welfare Association had urged the varsity authorities to take immediate steps for setting up a park in the name of B.R.Ambedkar in MKU campus here.
This point was discussed at the general body meeting of the association held on February 17th 2026 where resolutions were also passed on various issues related to SC and ST employees.
“Presently there are 25 parks in our huge MKU campus and they are named after so many personalities. But, there is no park in great B.R.Ambedkar’s name in our university. So, our association is requesting the authorities to create a park and name it as Ambedkar Park. There is adequate space near political science department building and we will be happy if it is done before Ambedkar’s birth anniversary on April 14th 2026,” the association members said.
The general body meeting was presided over by association president Dr.C.Muniyandi in the presence of general secretary DrN.Muthuraja, treasurer Dr.Rajan and members, according to a press release.
It was decided that Ambedkar’s birth anniversary on April 14th 2026 will be celebrated in a grand manner by the economics department of MKU and the association also demanded that quick steps must be taken to fill up SC/ST vacancies in the university departments and also regularize the service of those who are working for more than 10 years on temporary contract basis with daily wages.
