MADURAI: Save education crusader Mr.P.B.Prince Gajendra Babu has today lashed out at the union government led by Prime Minister Mr.Narendra Modi for its attempts to destroy public funded higher educational institutions by taking away all regulatory powers from the States through the Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhishthan (VBSA) Bill.
“The Constitution of India is being challenged by the Modi government. VBSA Bill doesn’t talk about grants, finance, funding etc. If the Bill becomes an Act, it will carry forward the National Education Policy 2020. It will wipe out the UGC. What is happening now is a threat to what was enshrined about education in our Constitution. So, take a oath and take a challenge to end the fascism of Modi government which is taking away exclusive subjects of the States,” he told the teaching fraternity at a conference in Madurai today-February 22nd 2026.
Mr.Prince Gajendra Babu, who is the general secretary of State Platform for Common School System-Tamil Nadu, had addressed a large number of delegates at the 34th statutory conference of All India Federation of University and College Teachers’ Organisations (AIFUCTO) which is taking place at American College in Madurai.
FAITH MUST BE OUTSIDE CLASSROOM:
Stating that faith should be kept outside of the classroom for any religion, he categorically said that VBSA Bill is Constitutionally invalid and hence all the Members of Parliament in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha must first download and read the Bill so that they will be able to speak effectively on how regulation of universities in States will be taken away through this proposed Bill.
“The Modi-Amit Shah duo is following divide and rule policy. In my opinion, it is Modi-Shah and RSS that are having colonial mindset and not India or Indians. During the British time, we had East India Company that had looted us, and now we have multinational companies that are looting. First of all, please understand that the VBSA Bill has no Constitutional provision and the teachers’ future is at stake in our country right now,” Mr.Prince Gajendra Babu has said.
Prof.Dr.V.Swaminathan, president, TANRECTA, Dr.R.Raja Jeyasekar, MUTA treasurer, Dr.P.David Livingstone, president, TNGCTA and Dr.J.Charles, AUT treasurer, were among those who spoke at today’s morning session.
Teachers from colleges and universities from across the country have attended the AIFUCTO statutory conference held with focus on ‘towards democratic, scientific, inclusive, public funded higher education in India’. It was organized in Madurai by the Joint Action Council of College Teachers of Tamil Nadu (JAC), Tamil Nadu Government College Teachers Association and AUT.
