Be a ‘Zero’ in corruption and become a ‘Hero’ in your life: Alagappa University steers students and staff at Vigilance Awareness Week event in Karaikudi

KARAIKUDI: Social activist M.Radhakrishnan of ‘Arappor Iyakkam’ in Chennai has exhorted students to always strive to get zero marks in corruption but at the same time get good score in their studies and i their future life.

“Marks give you career options, but attitude gives you life. So, our students must cultivate honesty, integrity and vigilance. This must reflect in your daily decisions and rational actions,” he said while delivering the thematic address at Vigilance Awareness Week 2025 programme organized at Alagappa University in Karaikudi on November 18th 2025.

The varsity’s Department of Social Work and Alagappa University Social Work Association (AUSWA) had conducted vigilance awareness event in collaboration with ‘Arappor Iyakkam’ to create awareness among students about RTI filing, provisions of Right to Information Act and how to use RTI as a tool for transparency.

Prof.G.Ravi, Vice-Chancellor, Alagappa University-Karaikudi, who had presided over the program, spoke about India’s continuous struggle to fight with corruption even after several decades of Independence. “We can check corruption with a strong national commitment and being vigilant is a collective responsibility of all Indians,” he added.

Integrity pledge was administered to the gathering of students, faculty and other staff to reaffirm their commitment to transparency and accountability, according to a press release received from the university yesterday.

Rev.Fr.George Fernandes, Principal, Ananda College-Devakottai, has called for a collective resolve to build a corruption-free society while Prof.S.Rajaram, varsity Syndicate member and Dean of Faculty of Arts, had pointed out that the Vgilance Awareness Week which was observed across the country from October 27th to November 2nd coincides with the birth anniversary of Iron Man of India Sardar Vallabhai Patel whose values of integrity and nation-building remain ever relevant.

Dr.MA.Velusamy, Professor and Head incharge, Department of Social Work at Alagappa University . welcomed the gathering and emphasized about this year’s theme ‘Vigilance: Our Shared Responsibility’ which emphasizes collective action to combat corruption.

Dr.G.Vinayagamoorthi, assistant professor, Department of Commerce and Coordinator of Swachh Bharat and Swasth Bharat mission at Alagappa University, had proposed a vote of thanks.
