
MADURAI: Teaching staff of various government-aided colleges in Madurai region today went on a hunger strike as a part of Statewide protests to demand the Tamil Nadu government for immediate disbursal of career advancement promotion pay with arrerars which is due to be paid for aided college teachers and also to completely abandon all the attempts to privatize government-aided colleges in the State.
On November 6th 2025, college teachers had staged a protest at Palanganatham roundtana by their token hunger strike to draw the attention of State government and Higher Education Department for their demands.
They have totally objected and opposed the attempts to privatize government-aided colleges and urged that the Private Universities (Amendment) Bill, 2025 should be withdrawn immediately. Disbursal of career advancement pay and arrears, timely implementation of CAS promotions, payment of research incentives and grant of professor-level post for the faculty of government and aided colleges are their other important demands.
The Statewide protest was called by AUT-MUTA at various places as a part of teachers’ struggle and they have also announced to intensify the struggle if their legitimate demands are not met by the State government.
MUTA veteran Mr.Parthasarathy, MUTA general secretary A.T.Senthamarai Kannan and zonal level leaders including Mr.Wilson Baskar and Kavitha were among those who had addressed the college teachers at the hunger strike venue in Madurai today as the faculty were furious that their genuine and legitimate demands were not implemented despite the assurances given by authorities and especially the implementing of G.O.Ms.No.5 for fairness and equality towards aided colleges teachers for their career advancement benefits and arrears.
