
MADURAI: The cancer care wing of Apollo Speciality Hospitals in Madurai has today launched an exclusive initiative for women with a breast cancer screening program called ‘Check-Olate’ to help for early detection and timely intervention for treating breast cancer cases.
“Apollo Cancer Centres always focus on advancing early detection and ‘Check-Olate is launched to mark the breast cancer awareness month as a sweet treat and as a sweet reminder for selfcare by women themselves. Our Apollo Cancer Centres deliver 360-degree comprehensive care with high precision oncology therapy led by expert cancer management teams,” Dr.Nikhil Tiwari, Chief Operating Officer-Apollo Hospitals, ROTN, told reporters at a press conference organized in Madurai today-November 1st 2025.
Citing a few reports and medical statistics, he said that breast cancer is a leading cause of cancer incidence among Indian women but the screening rate remains alarmingly low. “Check-Olate empowers women to make breast self-examination a monthly ritutal and our Apollo Cancer Centres along with breast clinics help the women for that self examination,” he added.
Dr.K.Praveen Rajan, Joint Director of Medical Services, Apollo Hospitals-Madurai, spoke about the Apollo Breast Clinic which was started for early cancer detection.
The Apollo Cancer team doctors including medical oncologists Dr.P.K.Muthukumaraswamy, Dr.J.Devanand and Dr.T.Deenadayalan have explained that each bar of dark chocolate in Check-Olate features a QR code that when scanned opens an animated video demonstrating a step by step guide on breast self examination by women.
Surgical oncologists Dr.T.K.Sarpparajan and Dr.K.Balu Mahendra have said that ‘Check-Olate’ is a moevment to help women for early diagnosis while radiation onclogists Dr.J.Jebasingh, Dr.G.Sathish Srinivasan and Dr.Ayesha Fathima had stressed that early detection is life savng when it comes to breast cancer.
“Apollo Cancer Centres urge every women above the age of 40 years to go for routine breast screenigs and prevent breast cancer with a simple step,” the hospital’s oncology team have appealed to the people through a press note issued for public awareness in Madurai today.
