MADURAI: The AIADMK is supporting the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Tamil Nadu which was announced by the Election Commission of India because it will give the correct voters’ list after a thorough enumeration check in very house, AIADMK general secretary and Opposition Leader in the State Assembly Mr.Edappadi K Palaniswami has said in Madurai today.
“SIR will ensure that eligible voters will have the vote and at the same time it will remove the names of those who died and those who migrated or got transferred to some other places. It is shocking that the people who died are still having votes in the present electoral rolls. So, we support SIR to remove the discrepancies and give us the correct voters list while removing all the bogus votes during the enumeration,” Mr.Edappadi K.Palaniswami has said while addressing a press meet at Kappalur in Madurai on October 30th 2025.
He stressed that there are lot of mistakes in the present voters list in Tamil Nadu because voters names are there even though there are no houses right now in that exact place in many constituencies.
“What is wrong in supporting the Election Commisison’s SIR exercise. Why the DMK is afraid for this revision to check the accurancy of voters list? The names of those who died and those who got shifted from a particular constituency should be removed for the final voters list of 2026 Assembly elections. The present voters list in 234 constituncies must be checked and corrected by the EC and so we support that SIR exercise,” the AIADMK general secretary told reporters in Madurai today.
Stating that the Booth Level Agents of AIADMK have already given specific particulars to the Election Commisison to make changes, Mr.Edappadi K Palaniswami has said that SIR is a good move by the Election Commission to protect the eligible voters.
“We are confident that a foolproof voters list will come after SIR is done in Tamil Nadu. For example, in my Edappadi assembly constituency, there are 5,600 voters names but they died long back. So, it is the State government’s duty to enumerate and give us the correct voters list. Our information is that there are atleast more than 10,000 votes in every assembly constituency in Tamil Nadu which needs to be removed because they are either dead or migrated to other State or transferred to another place. So, we want every assembly constiuency to have accurate voters list for the coming 2026 assembly elections while adding the names of all eligible voters,” the AIADMK general secretary has said in the press meet in Madurai on October 30th 2025 after his visit to Pasumpon.
