
MADURAI: Veteran actor and film director K.Bhagyaraj had commended social worker from Madurai Mr.Nellai Balu for his service commitment to provide free food everyday to the hungry roadside dwellers in the city through his ‘Maduraiyin Atchaya Paathiram Trust’.
At a function held in Chennai on October 1st 2025, the veteran actor of Tamil film industry had presented a memento to Mr.Nellai Balu in recognition of his feeding the poor initiative which was started during the second wave of COVID pandemic.
“Free food packets are being given as lunch to 300 people daily in Madurai and these hapless people are living on roadside with hunger. There are also mentally ill wandering persons who are able to eat food thanks to the initiative of ‘Maduraiyin Atchaya Paathiram Trust’ that is providing lunch for last over 1,600 days to the hungry in the afternoons at various places in the city,” a press release received from the Trust has said yesterday.
Tamil books publishing house ‘Manimekalai Prasuram’ had organized a special event at Hotel Palmgrove in Chennai and Mr.Nellai Balu was felicitated there for his social commitment. Retired police officer Mr.Karunanidhi, writer Indumathi and Manimekalai Publishers executive director Ravi Tamilvanan along with popular writer Mr.Lena Tamilvanan were among those who were present at the function held in Chennai, the press release added.
