
MADURAI: Hundreds of people from various walks of life had today turned up to pay their tributes and to celebrate the life and legacy of the Chairman Emeritus of Aravind Eye Care System Dr.P.Namperumalsamy who passed away on July 24th 2025.
A memorial event was organized by Aravind Eye Hospital in Madurai today-August 17th 2025-by inviting top ophthalmologists from across the country and the general public to honour the extraordinary life of late Dr.PN to recall his visionary contributions done with passion in the field of eye care and how he left an indelible mark as a doctor, teacher and guide.
Dr.Lingam Gopal from Sankara Nethralaya, Dr.Taraprasad Das of L.V.Prasad Eye Institute and Dr.Partha Biswas, president, All India Ophthalmological Society were among those who paid rich tributes along with senior ophthalmologist Dr.Meena Chakrabarti and Mrs.Premalatha of Mahatma Schools in Madurai and they recalled their association with Dr.NAM.
“Dr.P.Namperumalsamy has been the captain of eye care….He was a master surgeon and a disciplinarian. His clinical dedication and contributions are an inspiration for all of us. The legacy of Dr.PN to bring diabetic retinopathy to community level is remarkable. His commitment to start vision centres in rural areas with tele-medicine facility is a landmark in the field of ophthalmology. He was a father figure of eye care and his crusade against blindness is an inspiring model for all of us and we mourn his loss,” the speakers said in their tributes at the memorial event in Madurai today.
The management, doctors and staff of Aravind Eye Hospital including Dr.G.Natchiar, Dr.R.D.Ravindran, Dr.N.Venkatesh Prajna, Dr.M.Srinivasan, Dr.Kim and Dr.R.D.Thulasiraj have paid their respects and tributes to Dr.Namperumalsamy.
