MADURAI: Three Lok Sabha MPs from Madurai region have made a signed complaint against the Chairman of Indian Bank and sent it to Lok Sabha Speaker Mr.Om Birla to draw his urgent attention on breach of privilege and violation of protocol that happened to them recently in Madurai.

The MPs- Mr.Su.Venkatesan from Madurai, Mr.B.Manickam Tagore of Virudhunagar and Mr.T.Thanga Tamilselvan from Theni-have lodged their complaint to LS Speaker on August 7th 2025 asking him to seek an explanation from the Chairman of Indian Bank on why they were not informed or invited for an important program organized by the Indian Bank at Tamukkam Ground in Madurai on July 12th 2025 when they are elected Members of Parliament representing this region and the program was conducted by the bank on an issue connected to their consituencies.

“Indian Bank had recently organized (on 12th July 2025) a programme on ‘Empowerment of Women-Credit Outreach to Self-Help Groups in Tamil Nadu…..This program included the launch of a pilot project with a financial outlay of Rs.1,100 crores being implemented across three Parliamentary constituencies- Madurai, Virudhunagar and Theni. However, we were neither informed nor invited by the Indian Bank to this significant programme even though we are the elected representatives. It is a serious breach of parliamentary privilege and a violation of established protocol,” the three MPs had mentioned in their letter to Lok Sabha Speaker.

The three MPs have pointed out that public sector undertakings are expected to act in a transparent manner and in coordination with elected public representatives, especially while implementing Central schemes at constituency level.

They have requested the Lok Sabha Speaker Mr.Om Birla to issue directions to all PSUs and banks to ensure that there is mandatory consultation and intimation to MPs, and they demanded that an explanation should be sought from Indian Bank Chairman for breach of privilege that took place while conducting the Madurai meeting.
