MADURAI: The intervention of Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) was urgently sought into an alleged distance education examination scandal to the tune of Rs.3.5 crores that involved allowing 700 candidates to write examinations from home, inserting answer scripts without writing the examinations etc.
It is being alleged that Rs.50,000 was received per student and hence a investigation is being sought in the Directorate of Distance Education centres on who is involved in this exam scam. The issue was raised by MKU SC/ST Staff Association here yesterday and a detailed letter was circulated on 6th August 2020.
“A scandal took place in the Directorate of Distance Education in MKU. Exams were conducted in February 2020. Answer scripts were inserted after dummy numbering was completed for paper valuation. An urgent enquiry is needed,” the letter said. Three DDE centres being suspected are in Kerala and the complaint letter had mentioned Malappuram district and Thiruvananthapuram district.
“Rs.50,000 was taken from each candidate to insert their answer scripts without writing exam in proper exam center. Students were supplied MKU answer sheets, question papers. They have written the exam at their home. Some university staff in DDE-Controller sections are involved in this major irregularity. The answer sheets were inserted for paper valuation in July.
Totally 700 students wrote like this,” the complaint letter has alleged and also raised question on how some staff were allowed to work in a confidential section that dealt with examinations. The names of some employees were given to the university authorities seeking a complete probe.
