
MADURAI: The stage is set for conducting personal interviews tomorrow- on 28th July 2020- to select a new Vice-Chancellor of University of Madras, one of the prestigious varsities in the country. Twelve candidates have been shortlisted and called for interview out of the total 177 VC aspirants who had applied for the VC post. There is a lot of anxiety in Madras University campus and among academic circles/ teaching fraternity ahead of tomorrow’s interviews.
Interviews are going to be conducted from an university campus at Saidapet in Chennai where online interview video conferencing mode facility has been created, sources in Higher Education Department of Government of Tamil Nadu, told ‘Lotus Times‘ news website today.
The personal interview with each candidate will begin at 10 am and the time duration for the interview for each candidate will be around 30 minutes.
A VC Search Committee was formed to scrutinize the applications received and after this date has been fixed as 28th July 2020 for interviews,
Three members of the VC Search Panel include: Dr.M.Jagadeesh Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi and Convener of the Search Committee while Dr.P.Maruthamuthu, former Vice-Chancellor of Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) and Prof.P.Ramasamy, former VC of Alagappa University, Karaikudi, are members.
FROM MADURAI ONE CANDIDATE:
Education sources said today that one professor of Madurai Kamaraj University here, who is among the 12 shortlisted candidates for the interview, had requested for online interview and hence he will be interviewed via video conferencing. There are three women candidates who are attending the interview for Madras University VC post tomorrow. After the interviews, the Search Committee will give three names to the Tamil Nadu Governor-Chancellor and he will take the final decision for selecting th new VC.
