MADURAI: The 100th president of Association of Indian Universities (AIU) Prof.Dr.G.Thiruvasagam had met Union Education Minister Mr.Dharmendra Pradhan in New Delhi on 16th September 2021. He was accompanied by AIU Secretary General Dr.Pankaj Mittal for this important meeting where they briefed the Union Minister Mr.Dharmendra Pradhan about the immediate clarifications, notifications and requirements with regard to the implementation of National Education Policy 2020 (NEP).
ASKS FOR NEP GUIDELINES:
“It is more than a year since the introduction of the NEP 2020. The universities that have to implement this policy have not yet received adequate notification and guidelines to implement each and every aspect of this policy. We have also requested the Union Education Minister to arrange for a notification to name all the universities as “universities” irrespective of them being private or deemed universities as per the recommendations of NEP 2020,” a press release received from AIU here today had informed.
It was also pointed out that as stated in the National Education Policy, a circular is to be sent to the Government funding agencies with a direction to treat both private and public universities as equal in allotting funds. The AIU had also taken to the Union Minister’s attention that universities need clarification on certain programs of the policy- that is the requirement of unitary universities to become multi-disciplinary universities, multiple entry / multiple exit in the 4-year degree programmes etc.
According to the press release, the Union Minister Mr.Dharmendra Pradhan was informed of the constitution of an exclusive committee for NEP implementation consisting of seven Vice-Chancellors and headed by Dr.S.P.Thyagarajan, former Vice-Chancellor of University of Madras. “The Minister had appreciated the AIU’s efforts and assured that he will go through the committee report and also promised to send notifications on various aspects of NEP 2020 to all the universities,” the press release added.
