MADURAI: Mr.J.Suresh from Madurai, a Loco Pilot of very popular VAIGAI Express, will be one among the recipients of Anna Gallantry Award for the year 2021. This award will be presented to him by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister during the Republic Day celebrations in Chennai on 26th January 2021, a press release from the Madurai Division of Southern Railway here today informed. (HE HAD CAUTIOUSLY APPLIED EMERGENCY BRAKES AND STOPPED THE TRAIN- VAIGAI EXPRESS- 02636- and SAVED A MAJOR RAILWAY ACCIDENT on 18th November 2020). He is from Tirumangalam in Madurai.

A letter was sent to the Madurai District Collector and other authorities by the top officials from Tamil Nadu Secretariat in Chennai through a letter dated 20th January 2021. “The Anna Medal for Gallantry 2021 will be presented by CM….during the Republic Day celebrations at Marina in Chennai on 26th January 2021 to Mr.J.SURESH, Loco Pilot,” the letter to Madurai District Collector had informed.
RAILWAY OFFICIALS THANK THE TRACK HERO:
In an important press release here on 24th January 2021, the Southern Railway’s Madurai Division PRO office had informed that Mr.J.Suresh’s timely action saved 1,500 passengers of Vaigai Express on 18-11-2020; from MDU-TPJ- between KQN-ABI, where boulders and rocks were on the railway track due to heavy rains and landslide. Mr.J.Suresh applied brakes cautiously and stopped the train. The Gallantry Award on 26th January 2021 is in recognition of that timely saving of hundreds of lives. “Tamil Nadu Minister Mr.R.B.Udayakumar (for Revenue and Disaster Management) had recommended Vaigai Express Loco Pilot Mr.J.Suresh’s name to the State Government for this gallantry Award,” the press release said and thanked the Minister Mr.R.B.Udayakumar.
After this life-saving timely action on that day, Mr.V.R.Lenin, Divisional Railway Manager, Madurai, had immediately honoured train loco pilot Mr.Suresh with a cash award and also to his assistant loco pilot.
