MADURAI: A national voice that connects crores of Indian voices with its huge network is not getting right signal. The connection is facing a wire of issues and awaits Prime Minister Mr.Narendra Modi and his government to make or take a right call and set right the disconnect.
Yes. The national telecom major Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is struggling for a solution as its employees across India rose in one voice ticking from 27th July 2020 urging the management of this public sector to connect the line and listen what they are saying.
Their voice was heard from the temple city Madurai too with Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) and its affiliated unions leading protests to ring their genuine demands to save the BSNL. (Agitation named ‘Sarkar Jago Saptha’ was taken out as a national call). Mr.P.Thangaraj, State Secretary, BMS, Mr.R.T.Karthikeyan, BSNL Sub Divisional Engineer and BMS district vice-president, Madurai, were among those who spoke on welfare issues and concerns of employees.
SAVE AND PROTECT BSNL- RIGHTS FOR THE STAFF:
“We are pleading for labour welfare……During the present Corona virus time, the BSNL employees are working for 12 hours daily because it is our duty for this country. But the sad thing is that the BSNL management is not recognizing its workforce in a manner it deserves,” Madurai District vice-president of Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) Mr.R.T.Karthikeyan has said after the demonstrations began last week. BMS is an internationally popular and recognized organization that has been working for labor welfare and labor rights.
During these one week of protests, the BMS and its affiliate-associated bodies have highlighted labour welfare criteria in full measure. “In many departments and sections of BSNL, the workforce- new recruitment and employee strength has to be increased. Not only in the BSNL, it should be done in all Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), government establishments. The welfare of BSNL employees, contract workers or consolidated staff must be a top priority,” Mr.Karthikeyan has added.
They appealed to the BSNL management to implement what Union Minister Mr.Ravi Shankar Prasad has said because he was clear about the revival plan for BSNL. “Utilize our services……There are good technical and administrative skills for BSNL staff also. Our cooperation will always be there because BSNL is our blood,” they added. This message from Madurai is loud and clear because BSNL must be protected by the BJP government at the Centre and BSNL needs support to take on or atleast work along with private telecom players with its full capacity.
