MKU professor receives National award from President

MADURAI: The Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) has added another feather to its cap with the award presented to one of its senior faculty at the National Science Day celebrations held at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on February 28th 2020.

Dr.S.Nagarathinam, Professor and Head, Department of Communication, MKU, was one among those few who received Science Communicators Awards from the President of India Mr.Ram Nath Kovind. This national award is in recognition for his outstanding efforts in Science and Technology communication through innovative and traditional methods for science popularization and to the awardees for dedicating their lives to popularisation of science.

Dr.Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister of Science and Technology and others were present on this occasion. 

The profile about Dr.S.Nagarathinam has mentioned about his several efforts including his writing and editing of science articles since 1996 and practising  S&T communication. He has been particularly communicating Science and Technology related issues about water bodies, rivers, tanks, ponds and ecosites among the youth and local communities through interact groups for a far reaching visible impact. 

“This national award will make me work more in this field of science communication….. It adds to my responsibility and commitment to my society….I am very honoured…Protection and conservation of our ecology and environment is one of our prime goals,” Dr.S.Nagarathinam told ‘Lotustimes’ news website- www.lotustimes.org – today 4th March 2020. 
 
Scientists and Science Communicators were honoured at this national awards presentation ceremony held in New Delhi on 28th February 2020. The theme for 2020 National Science Day is ‘Women in Science’.
